Ancestor Connection
I call myself Witiga, because it is a Pictish word meaning witch or wise (or fool :-). There is power in taping our roots, taping our dna, taping into our ancestor spirit families. Witiga were mostly solitary practitioners in theory. They lived close to Mother Earth and were quite wild in speculation. Following my roots leads me on an eclectic path. I've been mainly focusing on my Celtic ancestry, because that is a little less that 7/8 of my ancestors blood, but I have been exploring my Cherokee connections through diverse Native American resources, (friends and books) as well. I would like to get my hands on some good books, but when it comes to N.A. study, it's hard to know what is someones Indian fantasy and what is real medicine (until you try it ofcourse). I have been reading "Where White Men Fear To Tread," by Russel Means. He is an increadible activist and leader. He is very human. A bad guy, a good guy, a shelter, a father, a voice for people, who are seldom heard by the mases in this country, and just a wonderful person. Anyway, in his book he talked about his daughter who had an extreme ceizure disorder and was heavily medicated. He and his wife took her to a Hopi medicine man, and he kept her for four days and four nights. When she came back to her parents, she was completley healed. I am interested in hearing any other stories or books with examples like this one.
